Uzbekistan to Transfer Power Grids in Four Regions to Private Investors

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has announced plans to hand over the management of power grids in Jizzakh and Syrdarya regions to private investors in 2026, followed by the power networks of Namangan and the capital region a year later.

As an example, the President highlighted Samarkand region, where Türkiye’s Aksa Enerji will modernize and operate distribution networks stretching 30,820 km, 54% of which are outdated. The project is expected to halve energy losses and generate annual savings of US$20 million.

The initiative includes full design, financing, construction, management, and technical maintenance of the networks for up to 30 years, with an option for extension. Successful implementation will pave the way for transferring distribution networks in other regions of the country to the private sector.

Aksa Enerji, part of Kazancı Holding, is already operating thermal power plants in Bukhara and Tashkent regions and plans to build a 400 MW gas-fired engine power plant in Kashkadarya, with investments totaling US$250 million.
