Uzbekistan to Launch “Car-Free Day” and “Car-Free Week” Campaigns

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree implementing measures under the national “Clean Air” project, introducing monthly “Car-Free Day” and “Car-Free Week” campaigns starting from 1 May 2026. These events will take place on the 10th and 25th of each month.

During these days, government civil servants are strictly prohibited from using official vehicles, though drivers’ salaries will remain fully intact if the dates coincide with working days.

From 1 August 2026, a trade-in program will allow individuals and legal entities to partially offset auto loan interest when exchanging old vehicles for new ones.

By the end of 2026, Tashkent will be divided into “red,” “yellow,” and “green” zones under the “Ecological Transport” system to better manage urban traffic and air quality.

Additionally, from 1 April 2026, construction of “green walls” will begin in Surkhandarya and Sirdarya regions to reduce dust storms, further improving air quality and protecting local ecosystems.
