Uzbekistan to Establish Green Belts in Border Regions

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Protective forest plantations and "green belts" will be established in the border districts of the Surkhandarya and Syrdarya regions of Uzbekistan as part of a program to reduce the negative impact of wind erosion and improve the ecological situation. A corresponding resolution has been adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers.

The document provides for an inventory of land plots within the framework of the "Yashil Makon" (Green Space) nationwide project to expand green zones.

Forest belts and protective plantations are planned for the Angor, Jarkurgan, Muzrabat, Kyzyryk, and Termez districts, as well as the city of Termez in the Surkhandarya region. In the Syrdarya region, the project will cover the Syrdarya, Mirzaabad, Akaltyn, and Khavast districts.

To promote water conservation and the development of green territories, the resolution outlines the implementation of pilot projects for artificial precipitation (cloud seeding) and the creation of artificial glaciers in the upper reaches of the Tupalang River basin.

Simultaneously, a system will be developed to train hydrometeorological specialists focused on implementing innovative technologies that influence climate processes, alongside organized professional development programs.

Furthermore, the resolution mandates fundamental and applied scientific research aimed at introducing modern solutions to mitigate the impact of strong winds and dust storms. These efforts will also focus on preventing the degradation of agricultural lands and pastures, as well as the conservation and restoration of local flora and fauna.

The implementation of this program is expected to facilitate the greening of border areas and reduce the negative impact of climate change on the environment and public health
