Uzbekistan takes part in the meeting of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission for the first time

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the regular meeting of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EAEU), held on 29 January in the format of a video conference, a representative of Uzbekistan, as a country that received observer status in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), took part for the first time. Uzbekistan received the status observer in the Eurasian Economic Council on 11 December 2020 at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.

The EAEU meeting was attended by First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Council A. Smailov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation A. Overchuk, Acting Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic A. Novikov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus S. Petrishenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia M. Grigoryan and Chairman of the EAEU Board M. Myasnikovich.

The Republic of Uzbekistan was represented by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan S. Umurzakov.

In his speech, the head of the Uzbek delegation outlined the main areas of interaction between Uzbekistan and the EAEU in the status of an observer country. The importance of building constructive cooperation on the principles of equality, mutual benefit and consideration of each other's interests was noted.

The agenda of the meeting included a wide range of issues of trade, economic, investment and industrial cooperation. Special attention was paid to the relevance of strengthening industrial cooperation in priority areas such as mechanical engineering, energy, electrical engineering, textile and pharmaceutical industries, and agriculture.

It should be noted that over the past four years, the volume of trade between Uzbekistan and the EAEU countries has grown by 75 percent, and today the EAEU states account for more than 30 percent of Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover.
