Uzbekistan Showcases Women’s Rights Efforts at UN

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s representative spoke at a side event during the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, held at the UN Headquarters in New York.

The event, titled “Using Digital and Intelligent Technologies to Protect Women’s Rights,” took place on March 11 and was organized with the support of China, Malaysia, Egypt, and UN entities including UN Women and the UN Population Fund.

Opening remarks were delivered by officials from participating countries and international organizations, including Lin Yi, Deputy Minister and Deputy Chair of China’s National Working Committee on Children and Women; Ahmad Faisal Muhamad, Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the UN; and Amani Asfour, member of the National Council for Women and Head of the African Women Empowerment Alliance. UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahous and UNFPA Executive Director Diene Keita also attended.

During the main session, Dilnoza Muratova, Deputy Director of Uzbekistan’s National Human Rights Center, presented Uzbekistan’s experience in promoting gender equality, protecting women’s rights, and empowering women in the context of digital transformation.

She highlighted the country’s comprehensive policy framework aimed at ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men, improving digital literacy among women, expanding participation in innovation and technology, and preventing digital violence and discrimination.

Uzbekistan’s representative emphasized the importance of international cooperation to address digital-era challenges such as algorithmic gender bias, digital inequality, and online violence. She also stressed the need to enhance legal mechanisms and leverage modern technological solutions to ensure women’s access to justice.

Participants exchanged best practices in applying artificial intelligence, big data, and other digital tools to protect women’s rights, improve social services, and expand economic opportunities.

Uzbekistan’s involvement underscored the country’s commitment to international collaboration in advancing gender equality and fostering innovative approaches to safeguarding the rights and interests of women and girls.
