Uzbekistan Shifts Traffic Fines to Actual Drivers
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As of 1 April 2026, Uzbekistan has officially implemented a system assigning penalty points for traffic violations recorded by cameras directly to the driver behind the wheel, rather than the vehicle owner. The initiative aims to reduce accidents and improve road safety.
Under the new system, vehicle owners must identify the actual driver through the electronic service my.gov.uz or the SafeRoad mobile application. The registration process is straightforward: the owner submits an online request, the driver confirms it using a digital signature or FaceID, and the Road Safety Service reviews the submission. Once confirmed, penalty points are directly assigned to the driver.
Early reports indicate a 34% drop in accidents caused by drivers, reflecting the effectiveness of the reform.
Authorities emphasize that the main goal is adherence to traffic rules. Drivers who follow regulations will not be affected by penalty points.
The system is designed to encourage responsibility and safe behavior on Uzbekistan’s roads.
