Uzbekistan produces 38,000 tonnes of fish

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan produced 38,000 tonnes of fish in 2013, of which 15,000 tonnes were breaded in artificial water reservoirs. This was announced at regional session in Tashkent, which was held within Fishdev project of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (UN FAO).

During the event, it was said that over 68,000 hectares of land and 11,000 hectares of artificial water reservoirs were allocated to implement about 2,300 projects in Uzbekistan to develop fishing in 2011-2013.

The commercial banks of Uzbekistan allocated preferential loans for almost 56 billion soums to support the fishing sector.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management of Uzbekistan, currently there are over 2,600 enterprises with 580,000 hectares of land, which produce fish. They produce such fish as sazan, cat-fish, silver carp and trout.

During the seminar, the participants considered issues related to management, assessment and monitoring of fish resources in internal water reservoirs of Central Asia.
