Uzbekistan Launches National “Clean Air” Project

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 25 March 2026, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree launching the national project “Clean Air,” aimed at improving the quality of atmospheric air across Uzbekistan.

The project, scheduled for 2026–2030, targets a 10.5% reduction in pollutant emissions. Key measures include the installation of automated monitoring stations and the introduction of gas and dust purification systems at enterprises classified in the first and second environmental impact categories. Special focus will be placed on reducing the number of days when PM2.5 concentrations exceed national standards.

In Tashkent, the mandate of the commission overseeing urgent environmental improvement measures has been extended until 1 March 2027, under a new title: the Republican Special Commission on Urgent Environmental Improvement Measures.

Additionally, starting from 1 April 2026, a permanent moratorium on the creation of new industrial zones in the capital will be enforced.

These steps are designed to systematically improve the ecological situation and strengthen control over urban air pollution levels.
