Uzbekistan Establishes Diplomatic Relations with Lesotho
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 27 March 2026, a joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and the Kingdom of Lesotho was signed in New York, according to the Dunyo news agency. Lesotho has thus become the 166th country with which Uzbekistan has established diplomatic ties.
The document was signed on behalf of the two governments by Ulugbek Lapasov, Uzbekistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Matete Nena, Head of Lesotho’s Mission to the United Nations.
During the meeting, the parties emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation within international organizations, including the United Nations and its specialized agencies.
They also agreed to maintain bilateral contacts aimed at identifying mutually beneficial areas of cooperation in political, trade and economic, as well as cultural and humanitarian spheres. The signing of the communiqué marks another step in expanding Uzbekistan’s comprehensive cooperation with African countries.
Earlier, on 26 September 2025, Uzbekistan established diplomatic relations with Palau, which became the 165th partner country of the republic.
