Uzbekistan directs 37.7bn soums to development of civil society institutes
Public Fund was created in 2018 under the parliament in line with the resolutions of the Councils of Legislative Chamber and Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan.
The parliament receives authority to determine the volume of resources, allocated from budget directed to support NGOs, mass media and other civil society, monitoring of their use. Earlier, Cabinet of Ministers and Finance Ministry of Uzbekistan were responsible for this.
According to the resolutions, the resources of the public funds are managed by the parliamentary commission, which includes representatives of NGOs, MPs of Legislative Chamber, members of Senate, experts of ministries and departments, as well as mass media. This will help to ensure taking into account interests of the state and public.
The work of the parliamentary commission will ensure efficient and equal allocation of resources from budget to support so-called third sector and development of NGOs.
It is worth to mention that over 8,000 NGOs are currently are operating in Uzbekistan.
