Uzbekistan Central Bank Advances Financial Literacy

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has demonstrated significant progress in raising financial literacy among the population, according to The Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI).

The report, “Overview of the Central Bank’s Financial Literacy Initiatives,” highlights achievements since 2019, when a specialized Department of Financial Education was established.

In 2020, the bank launched the “Framework Program for Key Financial Literacy Competencies” and conducted the first national survey of public financial knowledge. Simultaneously, an educational website and social media channels were introduced, featuring interactive materials, games, and videos covering savings, budgeting, digital payments, and protection against financial fraud.

Since 2021, the Central Bank has implemented “edutainment” initiatives combining education and entertainment, including a TV sitcom, radio quizzes, a music video, and the interactive World of Finance platform developed with Visa’s support.

These efforts have yielded measurable results: according to the Asian Development Bank, Uzbekistan’s national financial literacy score reached 12.7 in 2025, placing it among the highest in the CIS.

Currently, the bank emphasizes improving financial literacy among vulnerable groups. In December 2025, it jointly developed a Financial Inclusion Roadmap with the National Agency for Social Protection, targeting people with disabilities.

Uzbekistan’s experience demonstrates that innovative communication strategies, institutional leadership, and cross-sector collaboration accelerate financial competency development and create a more inclusive and resilient financial system, serving as a model for other countries aiming to boost financial literacy.
