Uzbekistan Appoints First Consul General in Washington

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has appointed its first Consul General in the U.S. state of Washington. The post has been given to Akhror Burkhanov.

Before the appointment, Burkhanov served as press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.

Commenting on his new role, the diplomat noted that his years of work at the Foreign Ministry had been an important and eventful stage of his professional career.

“Those years were very meaningful and multifaceted for me. The initiatives we advanced together, the projects implemented, the lessons and experience gained from mentors, working shoulder to shoulder with colleagues, as well as meetings and events at various levels made this period unforgettable and full of valuable memories,” he wrote on his page on the X social network.

The consulate will be located in Seattle, in the state of Washington.

The opening of consulates in Philadelphia, Chicago, Orlando and Seattle was предусмотрено presidential decree signed in November last year establishing the American–Uzbek Business and Investment Council. These cities were selected due to the significant concentration of Uzbek diaspora communities.

The primary task of the new consulates will be to develop and implement an effective model of engagement with Uzbek diaspora communities across all U.S. states. The missions will also help strengthen investment and trade cooperation, support projects of the American–Uzbek Business and Investment Council, and assist the work of the adviser-envoy of the Uzbek Embassy in Washington — the representative of the Presidential Administration in the United States, Komil Allamjonov.

Previously, Uzbekistan’s diplomatic presence in the United States was limited to two missions: the embassy in Washington, D.C. and the Consulate General in New York City. The establishment of new consulates is expected to expand engagement with compatriots abroad and strengthen economic and investment ties between the two countries.
