Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan and Tajikistan continue to strengthen interparliamentary cooperation following high-level talks held in Samarkand.

The meeting brought together Mavsum Muini, Deputy Chair of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of Tajikistan, and Sodik Safoev, First Deputy Chair of the Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis. The переговоры took place on the sidelines of the First Interparliamentary Forum “Central Asia – European Union.”

During the discussions, the sides exchanged views on key areas of bilateral cooperation and the further development of interparliamentary ties. Both parties emphasized their commitment to expanding collaboration, particularly in sharing legislative experience, advancing parliamentary institutions, and promoting economic and social development aimed at improving living standards.

Participants highlighted the importance of the forum as an international platform that fosters dialogue between Central Asian countries and the European Union, enhances political trust, and helps build sustainable mechanisms for cooperation. Tajikistan also expressed readiness to support the continued institutional development of this format.

Muini noted that regular high-level contacts between President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, along with constructive engagement on international platforms, have created a solid foundation for deepening bilateral relations. According to her, cooperation between the two countries has reached a qualitatively new level.

Currently, the legal framework between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan includes more than 250 agreements covering political, economic, humanitarian, and cultural spheres. Key documents, including the Treaty on Strategic Partnership and the Treaty on Allied Relations, provide a long-term and systemic basis for cooperation.
