Uzbekistan and Slovakia Agree to Boost Economic Partnership
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 30 October, during the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with President of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini to discuss strengthening strategic partnership and comprehensive cooperation between Uzbekistan and Slovakia.
The leaders noted the positive momentum in bilateral contacts at all levels and steady progress in priority areas. This year, political consultations and the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission were successfully held, business ties intensified, and the number of joint ventures tripled.
Discussions focused on measures to increase trade and investment, as well as expand industrial cooperation in key sectors. The parties agreed to raise exports from Uzbekistan of textiles, leather goods, fruits and vegetables, and other in-demand products, while Slovakia will supply rubber, auto components, pharmaceuticals, and industrial goods. Plans include organizing national product exhibitions and opening trade houses.
Special attention was given to digitalization initiatives, including a proposal to establish a joint center for monitoring bank cybersecurity and implementing modern freight tracking systems.
Both sides confirmed readiness to further develop cooperation with Slovak businesses in auto parts production, dairy products, and other sectors.
Humanitarian and educational exchanges were also discussed. The leaders proposed holding the first rectors’ forum in Bratislava in 2026, organizing tourism exhibitions, and conducting mutual Tourism Days. Organized labor migration was also considered.
The presidents exchanged views on mutual support in international organizations and discussed key regional and global issues.
