Uzbekistan and Pakistan Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Agriculture
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An official working visit by a delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jamshidjon Abduzukhurov, is currently underway in Islamabad.
During the visit, the delegation met with Saif Anjum, Federal Secretary of Pakistan’s Ministry of National Food Security and Research, to discuss prospects for deepening bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector and ensuring food security.
The parties conducted a detailed analysis of existing collaboration and outlined paths for elevating the partnership to a new stage. Discussions focused on the production, processing, and export of agricultural products, including potatoes, fruits and vegetables, meat, and pulses. Special attention was given to industrial cooperation and expanding access for Uzbek products to international markets via the ports of Karachi and Gwadar.
Negotiations identified priorities for improving export protocols in phytosanitary and veterinary areas, coordinating quarantine procedures, and developing the logistics chain for chilled meat products.
The discussions also covered research cooperation, seed production and breeding, the introduction of modern agrotechnologies, and the potential signing of memoranda between relevant scientific institutions of both countries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to intensify the work of the joint working group, develop a concrete roadmap, and prepare for the signing of a corresponding agreement.
The talks marked an important step toward establishing long-term, sustainable, and mutually beneficial strategic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Pakistan in agriculture and food security.
