Uzbekistan and Jordan Strengthen Inter-Parliamentary and Strategic Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 4 February, Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, met with a delegation led by Faisal Akif Al-Fayez, Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

During the talks, the parties discussed ways to further develop mutually beneficial relations between Uzbekistan and Jordan, with a focus on strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Both sides highlighted the shared historical roots, cultural traditions, and values that unite the peoples of the two countries. The positive dynamics of cooperation in political, trade and economic, investment, and cultural-humanitarian spheres were also emphasized.

Special attention was given to the significance of King Abdullah II ibn Al-Hussein’s first state visit to Uzbekistan in 2025, which marked a new stage in bilateral relations. The parties noted that the agreements reached during that visit, as well as the provisions of the adopted “roadmap,” are being consistently implemented.

Faisal Akif Al-Fayez highly appreciated Uzbekistan’s humanitarian support for Palestinian citizens, expressing sincere gratitude on behalf of Middle Eastern countries for providing shelter and social protection.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on enhancing trade, economic, and investment cooperation, establishing a joint intergovernmental commission and a business council. The parties stressed the importance of expanding joint economic projects and creating a favorable investment climate, taking into account the potential of both countries.

Cooperation prospects were also highlighted in cultural-humanitarian, educational, tourism, and religious-educational spheres, as well as in the pharmaceutical, agricultural, and mining sectors. The importance of strengthening inter-parliamentary interaction, sharing legislative experience, and enhancing parliamentary oversight was underscored.

It was noted that in January of this year, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis established an inter-parliamentary group for cooperation with the upper chamber of the Jordanian Parliament, which is expected to facilitate regular dialogue between relevant committees.

The meeting concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and the Senate of the Parliament of Jordan, which will serve as a foundation for a systematic inter-parliamentary dialogue. Faisal Akif Al-Fayez also signed the Senate’s Book of Honorary Guests at the end of the visit.
