Uzbekistan and Afghanistan discussed the development of cooperation in trade and economic and transport and communication spheres
The heads of Uzavtotrans, Urta Osiyo Trans, UzTrade and Uzanoatexport took part in the meeting.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Trade, participants in the meeting discussed issues of practical implementation of the agreements reached during the state visit of the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani to the Republic of Uzbekistan on 4-6 December 2017.
During the talks, issues of development of cooperation in trade and economic and transport and communication spheres were discussed. In particular, the timely implementation of trade contracts and other activities aimed at bringing bilateral trade to US$1 billion in the coming years. It was also underlined the importance of continuing work to expand the potential of the two countries in the field of transit.
The parties agreed to equip the international logistics center Termez Cargo Center with sorting and packing lines for the processing and export of fruit and vegetable products of the enterprises of Afghanistan to third countries.
Uzbekistan and Afghanistan to continue work on construction of the Mazar-i-Sharif-Herat railway. The necessity of timely preparation of the feasibility study of the project for further attracting appropriate financing was indicated.
The countries intend to use the new automobile corridor "Tashkent - Andijan - Osh - Kashgar" to supply Afghan products from the city of Mazar-i-Sharif to Kashgar (China) through transit through Uzbekistan.
