Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has confirmed its status as one of the lowest alcohol-consuming countries in the region. According to the 2026 data from World Population Review, average per capita consumption of pure alcohol in the country is just 2.1 liters per year.
Comparative analysis reveals significant differences in drinking culture among CIS countries. The highest consumption levels are recorded in Moldova (14.1 liters), Belarus (11.4 liters), and Russia (10.5 liters).
In Central Asia, consumption is markedly lower: Kazakhstan reports 5.4 liters per capita, Kyrgyzstan 3.9 liters, while the lowest figures are observed in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan (0.7 liters), and Turkmenistan (0.3 liters).
Globally, the highest alcohol consumption is seen in Eastern and Central European countries. Romania leads with 17.1 liters per capita, followed by Georgia at 15.5 liters and Latvia at 14.7 liters. These figures highlight both regional and global differences in alcohol consumption traditions.
