Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 15 November, the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade hosted a meeting with the Director General of the Investment Operations Department of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) S. Theravintorn - the parties discussed the state of current interaction and further steps within the key areas of cooperation.
The agreements reached during the visit of the AIIB President Jin Liqun to Uzbekistan made it possible to give cooperation with AIIB an unprecedented scale and pace.
Currently, active work is underway on infrastructure construction projects in Bukhara region - the AIIB technical missions are rapidly working on the technical and economic aspects of the projects. At the same time, a preliminary study of projects for the construction and modernization of the infrastructure of roads, water supply and sewage in the Republic of Karakalpakstan is ongoing. There is also significant progress in the negotiation process for the Obod Qishloq project, which is expected to be approved by the end of this year.
In its activities in Uzbekistan, the AIIB practices close cooperation with other international financial institutions: a project is being developed with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to electrify certain sections of the railway network of Uzbekistan, and negotiations are underway with the European Investment Bank (EIB) on the prospects of co-financing a number of projects on construction and reconstruction of heat supply facilities.
The substantive dialogue allowed to carry out a deep analysis of the issues related to the implementation of the indicated initiatives and to jointly work out and agree on effective and mutually beneficial solutions that will be used in the further work of the AIIB technical missions in Uzbekistan.
