Uzbekhydroenergo Reports 2025 Results, Launches New Projects

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s hydroelectric sector continues to drive economic growth, enhance energy security, and improve citizens’ welfare, with renewable energy playing a central role. One of the key contributors is hydropower, which has demonstrated steady growth and is becoming an increasingly effective segment of the national economy.

Uzbekhydroenergo has been implementing large-scale projects to construct new hydroelectric facilities and modernize existing plants, boosting the country’s energy potential. On March 16, the company held a press conference at the Media Content Training Center of the Presidential Administration to present the results of its 2025 operations and upcoming projects.

Since its establishment in 2017 at the initiative of the President, Uzbekhydroenergo has expanded Uzbekistan’s hydroelectric infrastructure significantly. At that time, the country operated 36 hydroelectric plants with a total capacity of 1,604 MW. Recent investments have added 800 MW, bringing total installed capacity to 2,400 MW, with more than 100 plants now operating nationwide.

In 2025, 13 existing plants were modernized, and 64 new facilities were commissioned, with $1.3 billion in investments. The company produced 6.5 billion kWh of electricity, while industrial output exceeded 700 billion soums. Under the state investment program, $237 million was utilized.

For 2026, Uzbekhydroenergo plans to increase electricity output by over 15%, deploy $264 million in investments, and raise industrial production to 935 billion soums. Fifteen new facilities with a total capacity of 152 MW are scheduled for commissioning, creating 276 new jobs.

Localization efforts have been emphasized, including the establishment of UzHydroPower in Bostanlyk district, producing hydro units from 1 kW to 40 MW and components, creating 300 jobs. Digitalization and automation initiatives have also advanced, with the launch of a Unified Situational Center and online water resource monitoring using over 4,700 automated devices.

A “project factory” has been set up to develop approximately 50 initiatives with a combined capacity of 3.2 GW. On the international stage, the company’s credit rating rose from BB- to BB in 2025, and it earned ISO 37001 and ISO 31000 certifications. In the ESG ranking, Uzbekhydroenergo scored 79 points, the highest among Central Asian companies.

These achievements have strengthened investor confidence, with major financial institutions from the USA, UAE, and China expressing interest in direct financing of the company’s projects. Journalists at the press conference received additional clarifications on current and prospective developments in Uzbekistan’s hydroelectric sector.
