Uzbekenergo and Uzbekneftegaz to be restructured

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev dated 1 February 2019 “On measures for the radical improvement of the management system of the fuel and energy industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, Uzbekenergo and Uzbekneftegaz will be restructured.

Uzbek leader entrusted the Ministry to develop models for reforming (restructuring) the electricity industry with the preparation of a detailed roadmap for the implementation of the proposed reforms with technical assistance of the World Bank by 1 March 2019.

By 15 March, the draft resolution of the President on restructuring of Uzbekenergo in accordance with the modern scheme for organizing the production, transportation, distribution and marketing of electric energy.

The ministry will also prepare proposal on restructuring of Uzbekneftegaz JSC to optimize inefficient management structures, reorganization of oil and gas enterprises based on the profile of their activities, and the attraction of private, including foreign, direct investment in their development, including on public-private partnership.

The President instructed to pay special attention to resolving issues such as a comprehensive vision and strategic objectives for the implementation of priority areas the development of renewable energy sources in the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The ministry will also study advanced foreign experience in using renewable energy sources, construction of renewable energy facilities and related infrastructure using modern technologies.

The Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan was entrusted with taking a governmental decision to improve the activities of inspectorates in oil and gas, as well as electricity industries one month, including by expanding the powers to exercise state control in the energy sector, as well as optimizing their staffing levels.
