Uzbek FM holds meeting with Iranian President

According to the press service of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry, Abdulaziz Kamilov conveyed the warm wishes of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Hassan Rouhani and the Iranian people.

The parties discussed the prospects for development of bilateral relations in context of implementation of the agreements reached at the meeting of the presidents of Uzbekistan and Iran in Astana on 10 September 2017.

Abdulaziz Kamilov and Hassan Rouhani exchanged views on a number of regional problems. In particular, the parties discussed the situation in Afghanistan.

The sides underlined importance of joint international efforts to start the process of political settlement of the Afghan crisis.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani supported the initiative of Uzbekistan to hold an international conference on Afghanistan “Peace Process, Security Cooperation and Regional Cooperation”.

The sides discussed other political and economic issues of mutual interest.
