Uzbek Doctors Successfully Separate Conjoined Twins
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A unique surgical operation to separate conjoined twins was successfully performed at the Chirchik branch of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Maternal and Child Health.
The infants, born prematurely at 33–34 weeks via cesarean section, underwent surgery just nine hours after birth. The procedure was exceptionally complex and is considered one of the rarest cases in the history of domestic medicine.
The five-hour high-tech operation was carried out by an experienced team of specialists led by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Bakhtiyar Ergashev, head of the Neonatal Surgery Center at the Republican Perinatal Center.
By order of Minister of Health Alisher Khudayarov, the medical team involved in the successful separation of the twins was awarded the badge of honor “Excellence in Health Care of the Republic of Uzbekistan.”
According to doctors, the condition of the infants has significantly improved. Today, they were discharged from the hospital together with their mother and sent home.
