Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Law enforcement agencies in Ferghana region have intercepted a large shipment of potent pharmaceutical drugs.

During an operational check in the city of Kokand, a Gentra vehicle was stopped. Among the passengers, a local resident born in 1994 was found carrying 2,797 tablets of the strong-acting drug “Regapen,” smuggled from the Kyrgyz Republic.

The seized medications have been processed in accordance with legal procedures.

A criminal case has been initiated against the man under Part 5 of Article 251¹ of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and he has been placed in pretrial detention. Investigative actions are ongoing.

Authorities reminded the public of the serious health risks associated with taking potent or psychotropic drugs without a doctor’s prescription. Such use can lead to severe complications, addiction, cardiovascular and nervous system disorders, organ failure, and in some cases, death.

Illegal circulation and sale of these substances without a prescription are strictly prohibited in Uzbekistan and carry legal penalties.
