Trump Demands Denmark Immediately Leave Greenland and Cede Control to the U.S.

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — U.S. President Donald Trump has demanded that Denmark immediately withdraw from Greenland.

“NATO, tell Denmark to get out of here, right now! Two dog sleds are not enough! Only the U.S. can handle this!” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.

The statement came just hours before a scheduled meeting at the White House between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President Jay D. Vance with the foreign ministers of Denmark and Greenland to discuss the island’s future.

Previously, Trump called on NATO to assist the United States in gaining control over Greenland, arguing that this move would strengthen the military alliance’s position. He warned that, without U.S. control, the island could fall under the influence of Russia or China.

Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Until 1953, it held the status of a Danish colony and, in 2009, obtained autonomous governance with the right to manage internal affairs.

Since the start of his second term, Trump has repeatedly stated that Greenland should become part of the United States, at times hinting at the possible use of military force. In December 2025, he appointed Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as a special envoy for Greenland, who confirmed Washington’s intention to integrate the territory into the United States.
