Traffic Police Officer Khosilbek Eshnazarov Laid to Rest in Guzar District

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 28 February, the Guzar District of Kashkadarya Region held the funeral of Junior Sergeant Khosilbek Eshnazarov, who died in the line of duty. The 33-year-old traffic police officer lost his life after a 15-year-old student, Daniyar Turgunov, struck him with a car.

Eshnazarov sacrificed his life to prevent a potential threat to ordinary citizens. He fought for his life for three days, but despite the efforts of leading doctors in the capital, he succumbed to severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs organized an honor guard and escort, with ceremonial gun salutes fired in tribute to the fallen officer. Several hundred people attended the farewell ceremony.

During the ceremony, Eshnazarov’s father received his son’s flag of Uzbekistan, shoulder boards, and cap. The ministry emphasized that Eshnazarov’s dedication and courage will forever remain in the hearts of citizens, and the homeland will not forget its heroic sons.

MIA spokesperson Shokhrukh Giyasov stated that the government will support the family of the deceased, including his parents, wife, and three young children—two sons and a daughter.

Khosilbek Eshnazarov began his service in the internal affairs bodies in 2022 and, since 2024, worked in the patrol and post service. In a short period, he distinguished himself as a proactive and conscientious officer: identifying nearly 1,500 violations, including 324 serious offenses, maintaining order at public events, apprehending 12 drug offenders, detecting 15 drunk drivers, and recording 52 major traffic violations.

Initially, a criminal case was opened against the 15-year-old student under Article 266 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (“Violation of traffic safety rules resulting in grievous bodily harm”), which carried a fine of up to 50 sizes of basic estimated value (20.6 million soums) or imprisonment of up to three years.

Following the officer’s death, the General Prosecutor’s Office reclassified the case: the minor now faces charges under Clause “d” of Part 3 of Article 104 of the Criminal Code (“Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm resulting in death”) and Part 1 of Article 267 (illegal seizure of a vehicle).

Under maximum penalties for the two articles, the minor could face up to 15 years in prison. The General Prosecutor’s Office has placed the investigation under special oversight, promising impartial proceedings and ensuring that strict accountability will be enforced.
