The retail trade turnover of Uzbekistan reaches 16.19 trillion soums

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The retail trade turnover of Uzbekistan reached 16.19 trillion soums in January 2021 and increased by 1.0% compared to the same period of 2020, also the turnover of large enterprises amounted to 2.27 trillion soums (growth rate – 11.2%), and small business and private entrepreneurship – 13.92 trillion soums (-0.5%), including unorganized trade reached 1.42 trillion soums (- 0.9%), the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said.

In the structure of the republic’s retail trade turnover, a significant share is noted in the city of Tashkent, which is 23.9%, or 3.86 trillion soums.

The retail trade turnover in January 2021 reached 16.19 trillion soums and increased, compared to the same period of 2020, by 1.0%.

In the structure of retail trade turnover in the period under review, the smallest share was recorded at 1.7%, or 273.6 billion soums, which was noted in Syrdarya region in January 2021.

Compared to 2020, significant growth rates in the period under review were noted in Tashkent city (+8.3%), Tashkent (+1.1%) and Samarkand (+1.0%) regions.

In the structure of retail trade turnover, the turnover of large enterprises increased by 11.2% and reached 2.27 trillion soums, which is 14.0% of its total volume.

The turnover of retail trade of small business and private entrepreneurship, according to statistical calculations, amounted to 13.92 trillion soums and, compared to the same period in 2020, decreased by 0.5%. The share of this sector in the republic in the retail trade turnover reached 86.0%.

The share of small business and private entrepreneurship, in comparison with other regions, was the largest in Surkhandarya (96.3%), Kashkadarya (96.1%), Syrdarya (95.7%) regions, the Republic of Karakalpakstan (95.6%) and Jizzakh (94.9%) region. In the structure of retail trade turnover, the share of turnover of large enterprises amounted to 14.0% of the total sales, their main share was observed in Tashkent city (33.5%), Samarkand (18.8%), Tashkent (9.6%) and Khorezm (8.5%) regions.

The retail turnover per capita in the republic in January 2021 averaged 473.1 thousand soums (compared to the same period in 2020, it decreased by 1.0%). 

This indicator, in comparison with other regions, was more recorded in the city of Tashkent (1 474.0 thousand soums), Navoi (624.0 thousand soums) and Tashkent (582.2 thousand soums) regions.

According to preliminary data from a survey of individuals, the turnover of unorganized trade in January 2021 amounted to 1 422.2 billion soums and, compared to the same period in 2020, decreased by 0.9%. Including trade turnover in dehkan markets amounted to 586.6 billion soums (a decrease of 2.0%), trade turnover in livestock markets was recorded at the level of 835.6 billion soums (growth rate of 100.0%).

High sales of fresh agricultural products reached 203.5 billion soums.

The sale of livestock of different ages reached 625.8 billion soums, sheep and goats - 166.5 billion soums, horses - 37.5 billion soums, birds - 5.8 billion soums.

In January 2021, in the structure of retail trade turnover, the share of trade turnover of public catering enterprises amounted to 3.0%, reaching 482.2 billion soums, and increased, compared to the same period in 2020, by 1.4%. Of these, 84.1% of the trade turnover falls on the share of small businesses.

The turnover of public catering in the period under review amounted to 482.2 billion soums (by 2020 - 101.4%), by forms of ownership: non-state - 480.6 billion soums and state - 1.6 billion soums. Compared to 2020, the turnover of public catering enterprises of state ownership decreased from 4.3% to 0.3%.

According to preliminary data, in January 2021, the volume of wholesale trade reached 8.8 trillion soums and, compared to the same period in 2020, increased by 7.3%. The turnover of wholesale trade of small businesses, according to statistical calculations, amounted to 6.61 trillion soums and, in comparison with 2020, decreased by 2.4%. The share of this sector in the wholesale trade turnover in the republic amounted to 75.1%.

The highest growth rates of wholesale turnover of large enterprises, compared to 2020, were noted in the city of Tashkent (+15.3%), Namangan (+12.8%), Bukhara (+16.8%) and Andijan (+11.9%) regions.

In recent years, the role of the public sector in the total volume of wholesale trade has been steadily declining. Thus, for the reporting period, the share of this sector was fixed at the level of 0.1% of the total volume of wholesale trade. Wholesale trade turnover in January 2021 amounted to 8.8 trillion soums, including entities of non-state subordination – 8.79 trillion soums, state subordination - 7.6 billion soums.

Analysis of the share of wholesale trade by type of ownership showed that there is still an insignificant share of state ownership in the city of Tashkent (0.1%), Navoi (0.2%), Andijan (0.03%) regions. In other regions, wholesale trade is generally a non-state form of ownership.
