The first hydraulic turbine impeller for the Tupolang hydroelectric power station in Uzbekistan was manufactured at the Leningrad Metal Plant

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Leningrad Metal Plant (LMZ) has completed the production of the first hydraulic turbine impeller as part of the project to upgrade the Tupolang HPP. The wheel is intended for hydroelectric unit (HU) No. 3. The completion of the manufacture of a complete set of equipment for the modernization of HA No. 3 is planned for the second quarter of 2021. This was reported by the press service of Power Machines.

The contract for the design, manufacture and supply of hydraulic equipment for four hydroelectric units of the Tupolang HPP was concluded with Uzbekhydroenergo JSC in 2019 and entered into force in April 2020.

Hydraulic turbines and generators with a capacity of 72.5 MW each will be manufactured for the construction of GAs No. 1 and No. 2. In addition, the scope of supply includes electrical equipment, process control systems, generator excitation systems, pre-turbine gates and auxiliary equipment for hydroelectric power plants. For operating GAs No. 3 and No. 4 - new impellers, equipment for the modernization of turbine control systems, APCS and excitation systems. Also, the scope of obligations of Power Machines includes the provision of services for installation supervision and commissioning of the supplied equipment.

The commissioning of four hydroelectric units will be carried out in stages, the project is planned to be completed in 2022. The total capacity of the Tupolang HPP will be 175 MW.

In the course of modernization, in addition to replacing the impellers, GAs No. 3 and No. 4 will be equipped with modern turbine automation systems and automatic control of pre-turbine gates. The turbines will be equipped with sensors for rotation frequency, vibration and shaft breakage, an anti-acceleration device, new instrumentation and electrical wiring.

The construction of the Tupolang HPP is carried out in two stages. At the first stage, GAs No. 3 and No. 4 with a capacity of 15 MW were put into operation. The equipment for them was manufactured by LMZ and the Electrosila plant. At the moment, the second stage of the project is being implemented - the expansion of the station's capacity to four HA, due to the construction of two more units No. 1 and No. 2 with a capacity of 72.5 MW, as well as the replacement of temporary impellers with standard ones and the modernization of the equipment of control systems of small HA No. 3 and No. 4.
