Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 20 April, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov to study the current state of investment and trade and economic cooperation with Japan and the Republic of Korea and the progress in the implementation of bilateral agreements reached as a result of high-level visits.
The meeting was attended by the leadership of the relevant complex of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Finance, the Agency for the Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry, the Association "Uzpromstroimaterialy", as well as the Ministry of Energy.
During the discussion, high rates of development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and these countries were noted and, in particular, a significant increase in indicators of investment and trade and economic cooperation. Currently, 48 projects with a total value of US$6.6 billion are being implemented with Japan, and 60 projects worth US$9.7 billion are being implemented with the Republic of Korea in such areas as industry, energy, agriculture, healthcare, housing and communal services.
At the same time, a critical assessment was given to the pace of implementation of individual projects, in connection with which the need to intensify the interaction of the relevant ministries and departments was emphasized in order to accelerate the implementation of projects and ensure timely commissioning of industrial and social facilities under construction.
An in-depth analysis of the current state of implementation of each approved project was carried out, the existing issues were considered and measures were developed to resolve them.
Thus, it was instructed to create an interdepartmental expert group, whose tasks will be to monitor implementation and actively promote ongoing projects by developing and approving appropriate road maps for each individual project, as well as providing technical assistance in solving emerging problems at each stage of the project cycle.
Following the discussion, the responsible leaders were given targeted instructions to take concrete practical measures to ensure the accelerated implementation of joint projects with Japanese and Korean partners. Control over the execution of these instructions will be carried out by the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
