State Security Service and Interior Ministry Foil Attempted Sale of Counterfeit Money in Chartak District
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Officers of the State Security Service (SSS) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Namangan Region have intercepted an attempt to circulate counterfeit banknotes.
The operation took place in Chartak District as part of measures to combat economic crimes.
A resident of the Asaka District of Andijan Region, born in 2005, was detained. The young man was caught trying to sell counterfeit money totaling 45 million soums to an undercover “buyer,” including 200 bills of 100,000 soums and 125 bills of 200,000 soums. The deal was to be conducted for 18 million soums.
In addition, authorities found another 5 million soums in counterfeit 100,000-soum notes in the suspect’s possession.
During a search of his residence, a laptop, color printer, paints, and paper used to produce the counterfeit bills were seized.
It is noted that the suspect had previously been held criminally liable for a similar offense.
An investigation has been launched under paragraph “a” of Part 2 of Article 176 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The suspect has been placed in pretrial detention, and investigative actions are ongoing.
