Special envoy of Switzerland visits Uzbekistan

The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said that the sides discussed the results of the regional meeting of high level, organized in Basel on 24-26 November 2014 by the Switzerland, as well as perspectives of developing Uzbek-Swiss cooperation on realization of national projects in water resources management.

It was underlined that rational use of water resources is becoming key issue in climate change conditions and worsening of ecologic situation in the global scale.

It was stated that the Uzbek side adheres to principle position that all water-energy issues in the Central Asian region, where main water source is Amudarya and Syrdarya, should be considered in line with the commonly accepted norms of international law, set by the UN conventions. These documents require envisage principles of not harming environment and take into account interests of all states at use of resources of trans-border rivers.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Swiss Confederation Nicolas Brühl and director of Director of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) Ilaria Dali attended the meeting.
