Senate of Uzbekistan Approves Law Regulating Artificial Intelligence

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At the eleventh plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, senators reviewed and approved the law “On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Connection with the Regulation of Relations Arising from the Use of Artificial Intelligence.”

During the discussion, it was noted that in recent years, the country has been carrying out large-scale efforts to introduce and develop artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, expand access to digital information, improve its quality, and train qualified specialists in this field.

Analysis shows a steady increase in both the use and financing of AI technologies.

The new law introduces amendments to several regulatory acts, including the Law “On Informatization.” It provides a legal definition of “artificial intelligence,” outlines the priority directions of state policy in this area, and specifies the responsibilities of the authorized government body.

The law establishes general rules for the use of AI technologies in the creation and operation of information systems and resources, while also setting measures to protect personal data during their use.

According to senators, the adoption of this law creates a legal foundation for the further development of AI technologies, promotes their safe and ethical use, and strengthens the protection of citizens’ rights and freedoms in the context of digital transformation.
