Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14 October 2019, the Senate hosted a meeting of the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sodik Safoev with the head of the representative office of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Uzbekistan Alkis Drakinos.

During the meeting, prospects for bilateral cooperation were discussed. It was noted that during the visit of the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Sodik Safoev to London in September this year, as part of the meeting with the leadership of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, a number of agreements were reached, the implementation of which will help to support investors and develop the capital market in Uzbekistan.

The parties emphasized that the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan on the transition to an integrated market economic model, improving international relations, strengthening the rule of law and liberalizing currency regulation attracted the attention of international financial institutions.

The EBRD last year approved a new strategy for Uzbekistan, which defines the bank's priorities for the next five years. It includes strengthening the private sector, promoting green energy, and expanding regional and international cooperation.

In addition, attention is focused on using the EBRD's capabilities to strengthen the potential of key ministries and departments of Uzbekistan involved in the country's economy.
