Second Indian Film Festival “Sashakt Nari” Opens in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The second Indian Film Festival “Sashakt Nari” (“Celebrating Womanhood”) opened on 12 March at the House of Cinema in Tashkent. The festival, organized by the Embassy of India with support from India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Uzbek Cinematography Agency, runs through 15 March and highlights the representation of women in cinema.

Films showcased at the festival focus on the strength, resilience, and achievements of women. The opening ceremony was attended by diplomats, film and cultural figures, and media representatives.

Ambassador of India to Uzbekistan Smita Pant emphasized cinema’s role in strengthening cultural ties and mutual understanding. Shukhrat Rizaev, Director of the Uzbek Cinematography Agency, highlighted the importance of continued collaboration with the Indian film industry.

The ceremony featured a panel discussion on women’s influence in shaping social ideas and cinematic narratives, with participation from Uzbek actresses Ra’no Shodieva and Zebo Navruzova, Indian director Umesh Mehra, and actress Farida Jumayeva. Video greetings were sent by Indian filmmakers Aamir Khan and Gauri Shinde.

Cultural performances included music and dance: the Uzbek group Havas performed popular Indian songs and dances, an Indian dancer presented the traditional Kathak dance, and participants from Bollywood Battle showcased contemporary choreography.

The festival continues with film screenings until 15 March, with free entry to all events.
