Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On the Helpline, which provides for the protection of women’s rights and the prevention of oppression and violence against them, 203 appeals were received on 17-23 April, the press service of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis reports.

43 calls on the helpline revealed signs of physical and psychological pressure. Appeals regarding family divorces decreased by 20, collection of alimony - by 15. There were no cases of suicide.

It is worth noting that a positive decision was reached 131 out of 137 applications received.

During the second week from the start of the Hotline, the number of calls has risen sharply. The reason for this was the conduct of campaigning through the media, social networks. Now women who have experienced domestic violence have an idea of the organizations that protect them, empathize with their suffering.

Operational work on each appeal, cooperation with employees of internal affairs bodies, representatives of makhallas, NGOs gives their results. Calls are received even from remote rural areas, the problems of women living there are solved. This is undoubtedly a great achievement. Perhaps for this reason, as noted by the specialists of the Helpline, during the past week the number of calls has decreased.

The Gender Equality Commission, together with a number of partner organizations, is addressing the issues raised in the helpline.
