Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Tianshan International Airport in Ürümqi (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Northwest China) has demonstrated significant growth in both international passenger traffic and cargo turnover for the period of January–September 2025, Xinhua News Agency reports.

During the reporting period, the airport handled over 5,900 international passenger flights, with border crossings exceeding 820,000 people, representing a 65 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

At the same time, international cargo transportation saw unprecedented growth, with more than 3,900 flights processed, which is 358 percent higher than in 2024.

Since the beginning of 2025, 75,000 foreign tourists entered China through the airport’s checkpoint under the visa-free regime, accounting for 61.6 percent of total inbound tourism.

The most noticeable growth in travelers came from Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Russia, with an annual increase of over 96 percent.

Throughout the year, the airport expanded its international route network by launching new flights connecting Shymkent (Kazakhstan), Paris (France), and Urgench (Uzbekistan).

Currently, the airport operates 24 international passenger routes to 17 countries and regions, as well as 32 cargo routes to 21 countries and regions, establishing Tianshan Airport as one of the key transport and logistics hubs in Central Asia.
