Priorities of Uzbekistan’s chairmanship in the CIS in 2020 presented at a briefing at the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 12 October 2019, a briefing was held in the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on the results of the meetings of the Council of Foreign Ministers and the Council of Heads of State of the CIS on 10-11 October in Ashgabat.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, in his speech, Ambassador of Uzbekistan Akmaljon Kuchkarov spoke about the participation of the Uzbek delegation in the CIS summit and the adoption by our country of Turkmenistan of the presidency relay race in 2020.

It was noted that at a meeting of the Council of Heads of State, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev identified the consistent expansion and increase of the effectiveness of multilateral cooperation within the CIS as the priority tasks of the Uzbek chairmanship.

In particular, Uzbekistan will promote the adoption of a new Concept for Further Development and the Strategy for Economic Development of the Commonwealth until 2030.

The head of our state also noted the importance of preparing priorities for the development of transport and transit corridors and the Concept of interregional cooperation for a ten-year period.

Participants of the briefing were informed that within the framework of the Uzbek chairmanship it is planned to pay special attention to ensuring the full functioning of the free trade zone, deepening production cooperation and developing markets of third countries, developing mutually beneficial forms of cooperation, implementing innovative, scientific and educational programs.

It was noted that next year Uzbekistan will host the first Forum of CIS Regions, as well as the regular meeting of the Council of Heads of CIS Chambers of Commerce and Industry and under its auspices - the Week of Business Initiatives of the Commonwealth.

Within the framework of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, it is planned to pay special attention to youth exchanges and forums.
