President of Uzbekistan Approves Measures to Reduce Water Loss and Prevent Resource Shortages
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree “On Additional Measures to Reduce Water Losses During Irrigation and Prevent Water Resource Shortages.”
The decree aims to improve the efficiency of water use and ensure stable water supply for irrigated lands.
Under the decree, 389 kilometers of canals experiencing the greatest water losses within the Ministry of Water Resources system are scheduled for reconstruction and concreting.
Implementation of these measures is expected to save an average of 206 million cubic meters of water and 26 million kWh of electricity annually, while also improving water supply for 158,400 hectares of irrigated land.
The decree also calls for the adoption of measures to use water resources rationally under conditions of scarcity. Repairs and concreting of irrigation networks will follow the principle “one canal — one system,” prioritizing sections already connected to previously concreted canals or where work has already begun.
These initiatives are designed to enhance the efficiency of irrigation systems and reduce water losses in agriculture.
