Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A round table was held in the House of Lords of the British Parliament on the topic “Prospects for trade and economic cooperation of the UK with the countries of Eurasia”, which was attended by representatives of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in London.
The meeting was organized by the parliament with the assistance of the Conservative Friends of Eurasia organization (“Friends of the Eurasia from the Conservative Party”). The event was attended by deputies of both houses of parliament, the leadership of the UK economic departments, representatives of the diplomatic corps, the business community, public organizations and the media.
Uzbek diplomats presented information on the investment, trade and economic potential of Uzbekistan, the ongoing large-scale reforms in the republic aimed at liberalizing the economy and increasing the country's investment attractiveness.
As the chairman of the event, Lord Peter Lilly, noted, the relevance of the “round table” is due to the upcoming withdrawal of Great Britain from the European Union, in connection with which London is seeking to find new opportunities to expand trade and economic cooperation with foreign countries. In this context, the countries of Central Asia, in particular Uzbekistan, are of great interest as a partner in such areas as trade, investment, finance, education, information and communication and green technologies, agriculture and others.
As the former vice-chairman of the Uzbek-British Council on Trade and Industry, Lord P. Lilly praised the large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan, which send an important signal to international business circles about the wide business opportunities in the country.
British parliamentarians also praised the opening of Uzbekistan to the outside world. According to their estimates, the establishment of a visa-free regime with respect to British citizens has already given a powerful impetus to the further strengthening of British-Uzbek relations in the socio-political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
As part of the round table, an exhibition of the participating countries of the event was held. At the Uzbek stand, the participants got acquainted with the sights of our country, tasted the Uzbek national dishes.
