Over 1,400 Eco-Activists Participate in Winter Bird Protection Campaign
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, together with the Union of Writers of Uzbekistan, held an environmental campaign titled “Let’s Help Birds in Winter” on the Alley of Writers in Tashkent.
The event was timed to coincide with 3 February — International Bird Feeding Day. Young eco-activists, schoolchildren, volunteers, and members of the media took part in the campaign. Participants installed birdhouses and feeders they had made themselves on trees and distributed food for the birds.
Similar activities were carried out across all regions of the country, involving approximately 1,400 young eco-activists. Designated areas were equipped with birdhouses and scattered food to help birds find nourishment during the winter months.
The Committee on Ecology emphasized that such initiatives are held regularly during the cold season to improve the living conditions of wildlife. Special attention is traditionally given to engaging youth, fostering ecological responsibility, and promoting a culture of careful environmental stewardship.
Currently, around 500 bird species inhabit Uzbekistan, 50 of which are listed in the Red Book. Migratory species account for 320 of them, representing more than 67% of the country’s total ornithofauna.
