OSCE/ODIHR observers’ mission arrives in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A limited election observation mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), which includes 11 people, arrived in Uzbekistan to observer presidential elections. The mission is headed by Ambassador Tana de Zulueta.

The mission is planning to start its operations in Uzbekistan from 23 February. The headquarters of the mission will be in Tashkent. The observers will also visit the regions of Uzbekistan.

OSCE/ODIHR mission will hold press conference to brief journalists on its mission, structure and plans. The mission will prepare interim report on preliminary work of the observers in the presidential elections in Uzbekistan in the middle of March 2015.

The main task of the mission is to assess compliance of national election legislation and practice of organization and holding elections to international standards. The mission will familiarize with work of election bodies, activities of political parties and mass media in Tashkent and regions of Uzbekistan.

Overall, the mission will have 20 representatives of such countries as Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, Canada, Latvia, Moldova, Poland, Russia, France, Switzerland and other states.

Ms. Tana de Zulueta, Head of the OSCE/ODIHR limited election observation mission, is an independent expert on human rights, elections, mass media. She has rank of Ambassador. She is a writer and journalist. She participated as an observer in various countries of Asia, Africa and Europe.
