Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 25 August 2020, a founding congress was held, at which a decision was made to unite two sectoral trade unions - the Republican Council of the Trade Union of Oil and Gas and Geology Workers of Uzbekistan and the Republican Council of the Trade Union of Energy Workers of Uzbekistan.

At the opening of the congress, the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan Alisher Sultanov addressed the delegates in a video message. He emphasized the importance of this event and noted that the creation of a new united sectoral trade union will be aimed, first of all, at strengthening the policy of protecting the interests of workers in the industry, developing a unified strategy for training union personnel and reserves, saving trade union funds.

“As a result of the initiative to unite the two sectoral trade unions, work in the field of labor protection, implementation of a promising youth policy will be increased, and in the near future, it will significantly strengthen social work aimed at supporting specialists and their families, which is a significant factor in the development of fuel and energy complex of the country,” said the head of the Ministry of Energy.

The delegates of the congress were also greeted in their video messages by the heads of the branch trade unions of Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, representing the "Neftegazstroyprofsoyuz", "Tatneft", "Kazakhneftegazprofsoyuz", the Russian trade union of nuclear energy and industry workers, the Belarusian trade union of workers of the chemical, mining and oil industries.

At the congress, Shukhrat Kurbanov was elected chairman of the united trade union. Delegates also approved the new union’s charter and five-year strategy for action.
