Nearly Two Million Packs of Smuggled Cigarettes Seized in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Tashkent, the State Security Service and the Customs Committee intercepted a large shipment of contraband cigarettes and food products, according to the XAVFSIZLIK Telegram channel affiliated with the security agency.
The operation involved searches of warehouses leased by two companies officially engaged in the sale of auto parts and providing services to the public.
Authorities discovered 1,963,964 packs of cigarettes across 29 brands, imported into the country without excise stamps. Additionally, 807 kilograms of food products in four categories were seized.
Experts estimate the total value of the confiscated goods at 33.5 billion soums (approximately US$2.74 million at the current exchange rate). All items were seized and documented in accordance with procedural norms.
A criminal case has been opened on charges of smuggling, and investigative actions are ongoing.
Security services continue to examine the companies and suppliers involved to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
