National REAP Consultation Meeting takes place

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A National Consultative Meeting on the REAP project was held with representatives of local ministries, departments and international organizations.

The project is funded by the European Union’s SWITCH-Asia program, which supports countries’ efforts to move towards sustainable green economies with low environmental impact. The project will be implemented in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan and will promote the introduction of sustainable production and consumption practices in the agricultural sector. The project will bring together the knowledge and experience of 7 organizations from around the world cooperating in a consortium.

The main purpose of the meeting is to inform national partners and other stakeholders about the project, as well as discuss issues of joint cooperation and coordination of project activities in Uzbekistan, which will be implemented in the country until March 2024. The participants of the meeting will be presented with the main tasks for the implementation of the project in Tajikistan, and exactly:

formation of a project coordinating group from among interested stakeholders;

promoting sustainable production and consumption (SCP) practices in agricultural production and processing throughout the supply chain;

building the capacity of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to find and apply innovative solutions to the challenges of natural resource scarcity and build systems for integrating SCP practices and value chains;

creating an enabling environment through industry clusters and incentives;

achievement of national development strategies.

The project consortium includes the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (project coordinator), Adelphi Research gGmbH (Germany), AREC - Association for the Promotion of Recycling and Environmental Protection in Austria, TERI - Institute of Energy and Resources of India, STENUM Asia Society for Sustainable Development ( India), the National Association of Small and Medium Business of Tajikistan and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.
