Namangan Region Launches Waste-to-Energy Project

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of the Year of Environmental Protection and the “Green” Economy, large-scale investment projects are being implemented in Chust district of Namangan region.

A 15-hectare site in the Zarafshan mahalla has been selected for the creation of an eco-sanitary zone, 10 hectares of which will be dedicated to the “Electricity Production from Waste Incineration” project, valued at US$150 million. The project is being implemented jointly by Everbright Environmental Energy Namangan LLC and Chinese investors.

On 29 November, the first stone of the plant was laid, with foreign partners, senior community members, and the public attending the ceremony.

Namangan region’s hokim, Shavkatjon Abdurazzoqov, emphasized that this major project will make a significant contribution to the region’s economy and environmental protection.

Once operational, the project is expected to process 547,500 tons of waste and produce 310 million kWh of electricity, of which 254 million kWh will be fed into the grid. This will cover the annual electricity needs of approximately 300,000 people. Another important outcome will be the creation of permanent jobs for 180 residents.

It should be noted that the region generates an average of 1,450 tons of waste per day, or 529,300 tons annually, providing a full potential for processing. In the first phase, waste collected from six districts will be delivered to the processing station in Torakurgon district, sorted, and transported to the plant.
