MPs consider report of Ombudsperson
Ombudsperson Sayyora Rashidova presented the report on activities of her office in 2014, the press service of Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan said.
It was noted that Office of Ombudsperson directed its efforts to improve national legislation on human rights, monitoring of their implementation, consideration of appeals of the citizens, improving legal knowledge of population, international cooperation.
Ombudsperson cooperated with Legislative Chamber and Senate, judicial and law enforcement bodies in 2014. Ombudsperson also participated in control and analytical events of the parliament.
The activities of Ombudsperson on consideration of appeals of the citizens and protection of their rights were conducted in line with the legislation of Uzbekistan. The citizens applied to Ombudsperson via electronic mail, telephone hotline, and personal meetings.
The Office of Ombudsperson organized several events, seminars, roundtables to raise legal awareness of population and officials, as well as published several materials. Ombudsperson also cooperated with foreign organizations.
Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (UzLiDeP) said Ombudsperson should also pay attention to protection of private ownership, rights of entrepreneurs and farmers. They noted that it is necessary to pay more attention to studying and monitoring of protection of rights of businesses and farmers.
The party members offered to improve forms and methods of cooperation with parliamentary committees to exchange information. They also offered to expand work on raising legal awareness of people and officials, as well as with mass media.
Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Milliy Tiklanish said that Ombudsperson should actively participate in law-making process. At the same time, it is necessary to pay attention to issues of ensuring freedoms and rights of citizens.
The MPs of the party said that Ombudsperson should work on improving activities directed at protecting national craftsmen, family entrepreneurship, motherhood and childhood, etc.
People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan said that Ombudsperson should actively protect interests of all layers of population, including pensioners and people with disabilities, budget organizations. Ombudsperson should also participate in controlling activities of the state bodies.
PDPU MPs said that Ombudsperson should boost its activities on consideration of appeals of the citizens and implementation of new laws.
Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Adolat said that Ombudsperson should strengthen its work on ensuring social justice and receiving high quality medical services and education.
It was noted that Ombudsperson received only 2% of applications from citizens via Internet. It was underlined that Ombudsperson Office should work on improving its official website. Ombudsperson should also work on decreasing number of repeated appeals.
Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan said that Ombudsperson should strengthen its attention to ecological rights of citizens and monitor execution of laws on protection of nature and health of people.
MPs approved the report of the Ombudsperson and adopted the corresponding resolution. The Legislative Chamber considered other issues of its jurisdiction.
