Mirziyoyev Reviews US$60 Million Agro-Orchard Project in Bostanlyk
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited an agro-industrial orchard being established in the Chimyön neighborhood of Bostanlyk District, where a large-scale project is underway to develop horticulture and the processing of agricultural products.
Bostanlyk has traditionally been rich in water resources and fertile soil, creating favorable conditions for the harmonious development of both tourism and the agricultural sector. On a total area of 3,000 hectares in Chimyön, plans include the cultivation of raspberries, blackcurrants, strawberries, and hazelnuts.
The total cost of the project exceeds US$60 million. It encompasses orchard planting, the construction of processing facilities, and large storage units. Currently, 50 hectares have already been planted with export-grade raspberry and strawberry varieties, fully equipped with drip irrigation systems. Yields from one hectare of raspberries are expected to generate up to 400 million soms, and strawberries up to 500 million soms.
Upon full completion, the project’s annual production is projected to reach 24,000 tons. A significant portion of the harvest, including hazelnuts and berries, will be earmarked for export. The orchards will create over 12,000 jobs, providing the local population with a stable source of income.
The head of state supported the initiative and emphasized the importance of developing processing capabilities. According to him, it is essential to implement modern approaches—from selecting crop varieties and soil preparation to harvesting and sorting—to ensure the production of high-quality products and strengthen Uzbekistan’s position in international markets. The development of the orchard and related enterprises will provide local employment opportunities, eliminating the need for residents to seek work in other regions.
The President also instructed an assessment of other foothill and pasture areas for the creation of similar agro-parks.
“In this orchard, you can see the labor and care invested in the land. The main outcome is income and benefit for the people. The returns here are many times higher compared to traditional crops. Therefore, it is important to train more people in berry cultivation and enable them to earn a decent income,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
