Mirziyoyev and Stubb Discuss Expansion of Uzbek-Finnish Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Talks between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the President of the Republic of Finland, Alexander Stubb, were held at the Kuksaroy residence with the participation of the official delegations of both countries.

The sides discussed in detail the prospects for further strengthening Uzbek-Finnish cooperation, with a particular focus on political dialogue, trade, economic and investment ties, as well as collaboration in the humanitarian sphere.

It was noted that in recent years, political contacts and business exchanges at various levels have been expanding actively, contributing to deeper mutual understanding and the broadening of practical partnership.

The two leaders emphasized the steady growth of mutual trade and the increasing interest of businesses from both countries in joint projects. The Nordic University, established with Finnish participation, is successfully operating in Uzbekistan, along with joint educational programs in the field of school education.

Following the recent Uzbek-Finnish business forum, a portfolio of promising joint initiatives exceeding 1 billion euros was formed. During the talks, measures to significantly increase bilateral trade were also discussed, including the creation of a Joint Trade Finance Fund to facilitate mutual supplies of goods.

The sides supported the initiative to open certification laboratories that would enable the promotion of Uzbek agricultural and textile products on the European Union market.

Special attention was given to expanding cooperation in strategically important areas such as geology and critical materials, energy, agriculture, digitalization, artificial intelligence, ecology, and tourism.

Agreements were reached to hold the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission in 2026 and to establish a Business Council. Both parties also expressed mutual interest in strengthening interregional cooperation.

The discussions also covered prospects for cooperation in education, healthcare, and labor migration. Next year, Uzbekistan plans to host the first Forum of Rectors and Innovations.

The presidents also exchanged views on current regional and international issues, reaffirming their shared commitment to fostering mutual understanding and maintaining an open and constructive dialogue.
