Member of the Board of Siemens AG stresses importance of further cooperation with Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Merziyoyev met with the Prime Minister of Bavaria Markus Söder and representatives of business and financial circles of Germany on 22 January in Munich. Leading German companies, including representatives from Siemens AG, took part in the round table.

Member of the Board of Siemens AG Michael Zen noted the importance of developing dialogue and cooperation with Uzbekistan in key areas of the economy and gave examples of successful projects. Thus, since 2017, a large-scale cooperation program “Initiative Uzbekistan” has been implemented between the Republic and Siemens. Within its framework, in early January 2019, a number of strategic partnership agreements were signed with Uzbek companies in the energy and industrial sectors.

A partnership is planned with Uzbekneftegaz JSC in the field of digitalization, with Uzbekenergo JSC for the modernization of generation facilities, with enterprises producing electrical equipment. The partnership is aimed not only at providing advanced, efficient technologies, but also at creating jobs and vocational education.

Michael Zen also stressed the importance of further cooperation with Uzbekistan and attracting foreign investment in the country’s economy. Among the promising projects is the power plant modernization program.

It also concerns the construction of new energy facilities in Tashkent and Kashkadarya regions. This may be the first public-private partnership in the field of electric power generation in Uzbekistan, where the possibility of investing in the construction of a 660 MW PSU “Tashkent-II” based on a Siemens gas turbine manufactured by Siemens will be considered.
