Media: Former Iranian President Ahmadinejad Killed in US-Israel Strike on Tehran
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reportedly died as a result of a coordinated strike by US and Israeli forces in Tehran, according to the Iranian news agency ILNA.
The agency reports that the former head of the ninth and tenth governments of the Islamic Republic was killed in the capital’s Narmak district.
ILNA’s statement emphasizes that the politician’s death occurred during an attack by the “Zionist regime” and the United States. Given that in Iran’s political system the president also heads the cabinet, the incident is classified as the elimination of a former government leader.
At present, Iranian authorities and representatives of Ahmadinejad’s office have not officially confirmed his death.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad served as president for two terms from 2005 to 2013 and remained one of the most prominent and controversial figures in Iranian politics.
